The Month of November is nationally recognized as Native American Heritage Month, and celebrates the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans across the United States.
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, our Monthly History Hour event will focus on local Native American History with Dr. James Brooks and Dr. James Anthony Owen of the Institute for Native American Studies at UGA. Additionally, our discussion panel will feature personal accounts of Native Americans presence in the Athens community today from Maximillian T. Frye (Wichita and Affiliated Tribes), one di gyoh (“Maya Henderson” of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation from the Deer Clan), and Jaylon Bruner-Vann (Muscogee (Creek) Nation tribe).
History Hour is a free monthly education program part of Historic Athens One Story. Each month’s History Hour is at the Lyndon House Arts Center, every 1st Tuesday of the month. Complimentary lunch from Rashe’s Cuisine is provided on a first come, first serve basis with vegan options available. This event is free and open to the public.
