The Historic Athens Welcome Center opened in 1973 when a group of concerned citizens organized to save one of the oldest surviving Athens residences from demolition during the Urban Renewal period in downtown Athens.  Uniquely located inside the circa 1820 Church-Waddel-Brumby House Museum, the Historic Athens Welcome Center is a destination where visitors can savor the area’s delights and enjoy a sense of Athens culture and history.
