Historic Athens Mardi Gras to Return to 40 Watt for 7th Annual EventATHENS, Ga. (January 13, 2025) – Historic Athens proudly announces the return of its Seventh Annual Mardi Gras Masquerade, taking place on Fat Tuesday, March 4, 2025. After five years, the event is back at the iconic 40 Watt Club in Downtown Athens. Presented by Levelish Construction, this year’s event promises a dazzling evening of live performances from beloved local artists Mary and the Hot Hotty Hots and Bichos Vivos, dance, costumes, and the crowning of the Mardi Gras Court. “This year’s event is particularly special as we return to the 40 Watt Club for the first time in five years,” said Melissa Gogo, event co-chair for the Mardi Gras Masquerade. “The 40 Watt is a legendary part of Athens’ cultural history, and we’re thrilled to host the masquerade at such an iconic venue. It’s going to be a night to remember!” This year’s masquerade offers a dynamic blend of local and international flair, making it two parties in one. The evening kicks off with the New Orleans hot jazz sound of Mary and the Hot Hotty Hots, followed by the energy and rhythm of Brazilian Carnival with a live performance by Forró band Bichos Vivos. “We’re proud to be sponsoring this event for the first time,” said Lee Smith, owner of Levelish Construction. “Mardi Gras is all about celebrating culture, history, and community, and Historic Athens brings those values to life. We’re excited to be part of this event and contribute to its success.” Guests will enjoy food offerings from local favorites, including 5&10, Baddies Burgers, and Mama Ning’s, and are encouraged to dress in their most festive Mardi Gras attire for the highly anticipated costume contest. The evening will also feature the crowning of the Mardi Gras Court, with nominees fundraising for Historic Athens to earn votes in the weeks leading up to the event. “Having grown up in Mobile, Mardi Gras holds a special place in my heart,” said co-chair and Historic Athens trustee, Robert Tucker. “It’s an honor to bring new traditions to Athens while supporting Historic Athens’ efforts to preserve our shared cultural heritage.” For a premium addition to the night, a limited number of tickets are available for the Nighthawks New Orleans Cocktail Experience. This exclusive 90-minute party includes two handcrafted New Orleans-style cocktails, King Cake, and a charming ride to the 40 Watt from Athens Trolley Tours. For those wanting the full Mardi Gras experience, "The Full Mardi" tickets provide access to both the cocktail event and the masquerade, ensuring an all-encompassing celebration. Tickets are available at bit.ly/mardigrasathens. Sales open to Historic Athens members and partners on January 13 and to the public on January 16. Mark your calendars for March 4, 2025, and join us in celebrating the rich music, food, and arts of Athens at the 40 Watt Club.
